"Gunsmoke" was a Western-themed radio program that originally aired on CBS Radio on April 26, 1952, and ran until June 18, 1961. The cast of the show included several well-known actors, with William Conrad playing the lead character, Marshal Matt Dillon, until 1961. Other notable cast members included Parley Baer as Chester Wesley Proudfoot, the deputy of Matt Dillon; Howard McNear as Doc Adams, the town doctor; and Georgia Ellis as Kitty Russell, the owner of the Long Branch Saloon.
Throughout its nine-year run, "Gunsmoke" became one of the most popular and enduring radio programs of all time, winning multiple awards and launching a spin-off television series that ran from 1955 until 1975.
